Marie Vakakis – Clinical Social Worker

MSW, Grad Dip Youth Mental Health, AASW Member, Accredited Mental Health Social Worker

Marie is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and works with individuals, couples and families. Marie has specialist knowledge in understanding and treating adolescent psychological distress, working with trauma, mental health issues, school refusal and family work. 
Marie’s therapeutic approach is warm, collaborative and utilises evidence-based techniques tailored to the individuals needs. Supporting people to work through their presenting problem, improve their mental health and wellbeing and develop more connected and fulfilling relationships. 
Marie has undertaken professional development in models including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Strengths Based approaches, Trauma training, Motivational Interviewing, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy,  Level 1 Gottman training and is completing a Masters of Family Therapy.
Marie also works with children, adolescents and adults who are gender-diverse, and works closely with services to support individuals and families through this process.

In addition to these therapeutic roles, Marie offers supervision and training services to a range of individuals. Marie is a facilitator of the Tuning into Teens program, Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), MHFA for the suicidal person, MHFA for non-suicidal self-injury, teen MHFA and MHFA for gambling problems. Marie works with various universities across Melbourne supervising social work students and is the host of the Inside Social Work podcast
