Dr Romana Calder – Clinical Psychologist

BAppSc (Psych) (Hons), DPsych (Clinical), AHPRA, MAPS

Compassionate, authentic and dedicated: Romana is a Clinical Psychologist who provides a safe space to work with any difficulties that life brings. She collaborates with clients to create meaningful goals for change and works to find a style of therapy that suits the problem and client. Change can be an extremely hard process and Romana is particularly attuned to the emotional complexity that ‘feeling stuck’ and moving towards a ‘new way of being’ can bring. She describes herself as a Person-Centered Therapist: clients take an active role in the direction and pace of therapy within a supportive environment.

Romana has completed a Doctorate of Psychology with the focus of her research on body image, dieting and eating disorders. She is a member of the Australian Psychological Society and has worked in a variety of clinical, tertiary education and research settings. Romana is passionate about working with adults and couples on:

  • Body image issues and healthy living at any size
  • Eating Disorders (in adults)
  • Sexual health and wellbeing
  • Alcohol and other drug use
  • Gambling and other addictive behaviours
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Adjustment issues, stress and life balance

Romana has been trained and supervised in a variety of therapeutic interventions, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (and CBT-E specifically for eating disorders), Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness and Relapse Prevention. She continues to undertake training and supervision so that she can grow alongside her clients.
