My Morning Routine
Mornings can feel sleepy, slow, or a bit tricky. Sometimes your brain and body need time to wake up and get ready for the day. Having a familiar routine helps you know what comes next and makes mornings feel easier.
Small steps can make mornings feel calmer. You do not have to rush. Taking one step at a time helps your brain and body wake up and get ready.
My Calm Morning Routine
A simple routine helps your brain learn: “It’s time to start my day.”
Start by:
Waking up and helping your body get moving
Opening curtains or letting some light in
Going to the toilet and washing your hands
Getting dressed for the day
Having breakfast and a drink
Brushing your teeth and hair
Putting on shoes and getting ready to leave
Checking you have what you need
Taking a slow breath… you’re ready for the day!
Going through the same steps each morning helps your body learn what to expect. Some mornings might feel easier than others, and that is okay.
When Mornings Feel Hard
Sometimes mornings feel hard. This happens to lots of kids.
You might feel:
Very tired
Hungry
Grumpy or upset
Worried about the day
Like there are too many things to remember
You can try:
If you are tired
Your body might need more rest. Getting enough sleep helps your brain wake up and get ready.
If you are hungry
Having breakfast or a small snack can help your body and brain have energy for the day.
If you can’t find something you need
Getting things like your bag or lunch ready the night before can help your morning feel calmer.
If you have big feelings
That’s okay. Feelings can come with you, and you can still take one step at a time.
You can ask for help if you need it.
My Morning Check
Before you leave, you can ask:
Have I had something to eat?
Have I had some water?
Am I dressed and comfortable?
Do I have what I need for today?
Is there anything I need help with?
Getting Ready for the Day
Every morning is a new start. Some days will feel smooth, and some days might feel harder.
The important thing is to keep practising your routine and giving yourself time. Small steps each morning help your day begin calmly.
